What We Are
Wisconsin Guardianship Services, Inc., was formed in 2006 to meet the needs of the aging, infirm, vulnerable and incompetent.
WGS is a Wisconsin Corporation licensed to serve as a corporate guardian by the Division of Disability and Elder Services. The Board of Directors serve without pay or compensation. Expenses of the Corporation (wages for paid staff, rent, utilities, mileage, etc.) are covered by Court approved charges.
WGS utilizes paid and volunteer staff to provide services to wards. Persons interested in serving in volunteer capacities as staff providing guardianship of the Person services are encouraged to contact us. Assisting those in need in simple daily decisions or critical medical issues can be immensely rewarding and fulfilling. These services often do not require a tremendous commitment of time. GIVE US A CALL. There may be someone waiting for a person just like you!
Where WGS serves as guardian of the estate it is bonded pursuant to a bond approved by the Circuit Court.
Services Provided
Under Wisconsin Law, a guardian may be appointed of the Person or the Estate of a person who is incompetent or otherwise vulnerable.
Eligible wards might be elderly and infirm residing in a nursing home, or young, vulnerable adults. A guardian of the Person is responsible for making day-to-day management decisions for the client (ward) such as: appropriate residence, medical decisions, Court contacts on behalf of the ward and acting as liaison between the ward and institutional staff and social workers.
A guardian of the Estate manages income and property of the ward. Wards on medical assistance receive a small monthly stipend which must be monitored by the guardian and paid out as appropriate to the ward. Where a ward has substantial assets the guardian manages the assets. Investments are conservatively made so as to protect the principal of the ward. Certificates of Deposit, Treasury Notes and Savings Bonds are preferred over more volatile investments such as stocks, and Corporate bonds. The Wisconsin Statutes limit a guardian’s discretion in these matters to assure protection of the ward’s assets.
WGS may also be Court appointed as Conservator to manage finances, benefits and assets of legally competent persons who voluntarily seek such services.
WGS is required to file annual reports with the Court regarding each of its wards. Among other things, these reports show all income and expenses for the preceding year and the ward’s year end asset balance.
WGS also acts as a social security representative payee for those who need assistance in monitoring their monthly social security income.
